Ross Marchant

Presenter of the Sunday evening show, Music Mania! Ross Marchant gives us an insight into him and his show:

Music Mania

How long have you been a presenter at Apple AM?

I have presented a show since June 1995 and have been a member for longer.

Do you have any other broadcasting history?

I have presented shows on Orchard FM in the past and fronted their new release reviews on a nightly basis until recently. I am still involved with Orchard. I have also done some work for Somerset Sound and worked at GCap's headquarters some years ago where I assisted in clearing their computerised music system out of all the junk they didn't need anymore. I also helped out with some of GCap's digital stations.

Why is it important to you to volunteer time at Apple?

I think the service they provide to patients is fantastic. It is designed to ease a patient's stay in hospital and I think it delivers on that. It is a pleasure to be part of the team and it is very rewarding work.

What's your favourite music genre and name some of your favourite artists and songs?

Eclectic is the only way to describe my musical taste. I can listen to 'almost' anything and enjoy it. Just listen to my show and I'll prove it.

Who would be your dream person to interview, why and what would you ask them?

I wouldn't say dream person but I would like to interview Sir Cliff Richard to ask him when he will retire!

If you could make any wish come true for the station, what would it be?

I know the Apple am committee, which I am part of, are very keen to get a community licence for the station. It would be fantastic to see this happen.

Explain more about Music Mania.

Well it broadcasts Sunday evenings 7-10pm, it is a format I have developed over the ears and I am very proud of it. It plays something for everyone and I talk about nything that comes into my head when I turn the microphone on. Although I try to stay out of politics and all of what's wrong with the world, as I like to keep hings light- hearted.

What's the highlight of your show and do you have any forthcoming new bits planned you'd like to tell the listeners about?

I like to keep my show packed with features, and I change most of them at least every year to stop the show getting stale. Therefore 'new bits'  are always only just around the corner.

Many Thanks

Ross
