Tony Smedley (Presenter)

How long have you been a presenter on Apple AM?
The memory is a bit dim but I think 2012 is the tenth year since I started as a presenter.
Do you have any other broadcasting experience?
Yes. I used to film and present a programme called ‘Bus Stop’ on the now defunct Taunton TV.
Why is it important to you to volunteer time at Apple?
It’s great to be able to give time to Apple and do something I enjoy both at the same time. Hopefully listeners to my slot enjoy themselves as well, which is what it’s really all about.
What’s your favourite music genre and name some of your favourite artists and songs?
Although I was a late convert to the genre, my favourite music is ‘Country’. As for favourites, they are too many to name.
Who would be your dream person to interview, why and what would you ask them?
The person would have to be Garth Brooks, and that would be because it was his style of music that got me into Country in the first place. I’d ask him where did he get his inspiration from?
If you could make any wish come true for the station, what would it be?
Now we have been granted a Community Licence my wish would be that the Station becomes the most listened to radio station in Taunton.
What’s the name of your show?
I actually do two separate shows in my two hour slot. The first hour is called The Friday Matinee, and is music from the movies although not necessarily the theme tune. I get full rein to play any sort of music from within film soundtracks.
The second hour is all country music, and the show is called Apple Country. I do my best to play music as new as I can get it.
When is your show on?
My show is on a Friday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm. The Friday Matinee is on between 2 and 3pm and Apple Country is on between 3 and 4pm.
