On Sunday 20th April, we broadcast the first of our live commentaries from the Somerset County Cricket Ground, with the inaugral game against Hampshire.

It was a cracker!

Paul Sands, our head of sport led the team at the ground itself and co-ordinated the guys "driving the desk" here in the Apple AM studio.

Now I must confess, I"d only ever been to one game before, not at county level I must add and I was a "little" hesitant about whether it would really be for "me"...

I couldn"t have been proved more wrong.

I called into the studio on Sunday and the commentary sounded delightful, upbeat, interesting and (dare I say it) cheekily entertaining!

So I nipped over to the ground to see what was happening there and was very pleasantly surprised.  There were families all over the place, the whole atmosphere was very relaxed, there was plenty of space to sit and enjoy the game and the view of the pitch was perfect!

There was such a lot going on too, much good conversation and a gentle buzz going around the ground that created a very comfortable feel and a happy atmosphere.

Nothing felt stagnant, it was all very fluid as people were milling around and in the quiet bits (when the chaps were off the field) people had their heads down reading books and magazines, or were munching sandwiches, drinking tea and enjoying great conversation with their families and friends - it all made for a fantastic day out at a leisurely pace.

There were lots of places to get refreshments and the prices seemed reasonable too, there was even a nice looking fish and chip shop on site if"d you"d forgotten to bring your own food!

I"m also delighted to report there was no foul language or inappropriate behaviour going on anywhere, not that I was necessarily expecting any, but you never know what you"ll find with something new and I wanted to feel I could comfortably bring my young children along to enjoy a day of brilliant sport and the Somerset Country Cricket Ground get"s a complete "thumbs up" from me!

The prices are very reasonable, in some cases, children get in for just a pound and the adult tickets are well priced.

I"ll be taking my family to one of the forthcoming games and they are all looking forward to going, I might even get up to the commentary box again and interview one of those very nice players...!

By the way, if you need further information on the games they have lined up this season, give the ground a ring on 0845 337 1875 or check their website, www.SomersetCountyCC.co.uk and don"t forget, Apple will be bringing you outside broadcasts of all of the games if you are unable to get there and you can enjoy them on the free radio headsets in the hospital, or via the Internet on www.AppleAM.com, then click, "Listen Live".

Maybe I"ll see you there!
