Thanks for taking an interest in our charity. Here are some frequently Asked Questions.

Do I need to have any previous broadcasting experience?

The short answer is no. Whilst experience can be helpful, hospital radio is very different to other kinds of media.

How do I become a member?

Apple AM’s members are all volunteers, to become a member you will need to speak to our membership secretary, who will explain more about Apple AM and how we operate.

Will I have my own programme immediately?

Apple AM staff have to demonstrate a commitment to the station before they are trained to produce their own programme. Activities may include assisting presenters, collection requests and ward visiting, handling competitions and working in the music library.

Do I have to become a presenter?

No, you could be a Ward Champion responsible for liaising with hospital patients, ward staff and general staff within the hospital complex. You will be responsible for raising awareness of Apple am and collecting requests for our on-air team. You could even do a bit of gardening every now and again (no, really, our transmitter enclosure gets weed ridden quite often!)

Are there any age limits?

Members must be over 17 years of age. There is no maximum age limit and our studio is wheelchair friendly. The average age of the patients in the hospital is over 60.

What are the commitments of a member?

Members need to supports Apple AM as either a ward visitor or a presenter. We encourage all our members to take part in fundraising activities, including Outside Broadcasts and collections.

If you would like more information contact our membership secretary Alan Collins. Email: alanc@appleam.com or call the studio on 01823 342591.

Note: All Apple am members work on a voluntary basis and all membership is subject to a satisfactory CRB check.
