Joining Apple AM

Thanks for taking an interest in our charity. Here our some frequently Asked Questions.

Do I need to have any previous broadcasting experience?

The short answer is no. Whilst experience can be helpful, hospital radio is very different to other kinds of media.

How do I become a member?

Apple AM’s members are all volunteers, to become a member you will need to speak to our membership secretary, who will explain more about Apple AM and how we operate.

Will I have my own programme immediately?

Apple AM staff have to demonstrate a commitment to the station before they are trained to produce their own programme. Activities may include assisting presenters, collection requests and ward visiting, handling competitions and working in the music library.

Do I have to become a presenter?

No, Apple AM always welcomes ward visitors who can collect requests for any of the programmes.

Are there any age limits?

Members must be over 17 years of age. There is no maximum age limit and our studio is wheelchair friendly. The average age of the patients in the hospital is over 60.

What are the commitments of a member?

Members need to supports Apple AM as either a ward visitor or a presenter. We encourage all our members to take part in fundraising activities, including Outside Broadcasts and collections.

If you would like more information, telephone 01823 342591 and speak to our membership secretary or complete our enquiry form on the contact page.
