About Apple AM: Taunton Hospital Radio

Apple AM is the Hospital Community Radio Station for the patients and staff of Musgrove Park Hospital.

You may or may not be surprised to hear about Apple AM, but we are by no means the New Kids on the block. We have been going for over 37 years now, broadcasting programmes in the evenings for most of that time to patients at Musgrove Park Hospital.

We have changed quite a lot from those early days. Once broadcasting from the back of an old ambulance, we enjoyed the luxury of a small hut on hospital grounds for many years. It was only in the year 2000, 29 years away from our birth in 1971, that we finally moved into the brand new studio inside the hospital itself, at the entrance to the Duchess building.

Our aims are very simple, to provide a service to the patients of the hospital in the hope that it will relieve some hurt and boredom that they may otherwise feel. We know that many of the patients enjoy listening to our vast selection of programmes. But we are also aware that many patients do not know of our existence and if you are one such person, we hope you will listen in, just ask the nurses if you are unsure which channel we are broadcasting on.

We play all kinds of music. Our library contains material from the 1930's onwards and everyone from Glenn Miller to Welsh Choirs are included. Our programmes contain a mixture of anything from the latest music to classical, country to religious, or musicals to jazz.

However, we prefer our patients to choose the music, after all, it is your hospital radio station.

We make it as easy as possible to make a request, visit our online request page to have some music played for a friend or relative in hospital.

Many programmes feature competitions, with the chance for you to win something, and other programmes involve discussions of topical issues. For more information please look at our Programme Schedule.
